I have French Canadian ancestors that I’ve attempted to trace back to France, with some success thanks to the various genealogical dictionaries available for Quebec ancestry. So when I’m looking for information on how to navigate through French records and research, one of the first places I turn to is Anne Morddel’s blog, “The French Genealogy Blog.” Anne is certified by the Board for Certification of Genealogists and is an author and lecturer specializing in French genealogy. Her latest blog post is a discussion of general American-style techniques and resources for researching female ancestors vs. the same process with French research. The basis for the American style of researching female ancestors is based on a lecture given at Rootstech by Julie Stoddard in 2020 entitled, “Finding Your Elusive Female Ancestors.”
It’s an interesting look at how researching French female ancestors is both similar and different to the process of researching American female ancestors that Julie Stoddard discusses in her talk. If you have French ancestors, definitely see what Anne Morddel has to say on the subject! Your research will no doubt benefit from her experience.
