Back in March of last year, I posted a review of Kay Germain Ingalls’ article, “Cherchez la femme! Looking for Female Ancestors” which appeared in the September 2000 issue of the NGSQ. You can find the review here.
While trapped in quarantine, I was surfing the interwebs for interesting tidbits and came across an old blog that referenced the article. The blogger had a series where he was training an “apprentice” and blogged about what they were working on together and what assignments he would give his apprentice. For the Ingalls article,
“Her assignment was to create questions to be used either in a discussion group, or in multiple choice form for use in a test, or on-line course situation. The task of creating questions causes the reader to read a little closer…The intent is to help the learner report on processes and rationales.”
Try re-reading the article (remember, if you’re a member of NGSQ you can read the online for free online here) and then take a look at the 6 questions that the apprentice came up with, as well as the mini quiz that follows. Can you answer the questions? Do you think the apprentice’s questions succeeded in the task? Are there any questions that you might add?
